Note Smith served as Writer-in-Residence at Hollins University (Roanoke, Va.) during the 1965-66 session and as a Faculty member of the English Dept. 1967-1980. He left Hollins to take the position of Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress (a position now called Poet Laureate) from 1968-1970. Poet and translator, Smith has written poetry for both adults and children
